The Insider’s Guide to Dining at Bully Hill Vineyards: What to Expect, Stunning Views, and a Vegan Hack

Cracking the code on their unique ordering system, ordering plant-based like a pro, and soaking in the absolute best view on Keuka Lake.

There is something truly magical about the Finger Lakes region, and for me, a trip to Keuka Lake isn’t complete without a stop at Bully Hill Vineyards. Between the eclectic history, the fantastic wines, and the stunning property, it’s a must-visit. But if you’re planning to grab a bite at the Bully Hill Restaurant, there are a few things you should know before you go.

Over my last few visits, I’ve noticed a common trend while waiting in line to order: people looking around a bit confused, turning to me, and asking, "So... how exactly does this work?" It’s a fair question! The dining process here is a little different from your typical sit-down restaurant. To help you navigate it like a seasoned pro, here is the ultimate insider’s guide to dining at Bully Hill.

What to Expect: The Ordering Process

Don't let the unique setup catch you off guard. It's actually a seamless blend of traditional table service and fast-casual ordering. Here is exactly how it goes down:

  1. The Greeting: When you arrive, you’ll head to the host stand. Give your name to the greeter, and they will walk you to your table.
  2. The Menus & Specials: The greeter will hand you your menus, explain the daily specials, and get you settled. Take a few minutes to look things over and decide what you want.
  3. The Counter Line: Once you’ve made your choice, you actually get up from your table and head over to the front counter area. This is where you’ll place your order with the cashier and pay for your meal upfront.
  4. Relax and Enjoy: After paying, head back to your table. The staff will take care of the rest, bringing your fresh food and drinks straight to you!

It might feel a little unconventional at first, but once you know the rhythm, it makes for a wonderfully relaxed and efficient dining experience.

Navigating the Menu as a Vegan

Let’s talk about the food. The overall menu looks absolutely fantastic, and the dining room itself is just gorgeous—spacious, rustic, and full of that classic Bully Hill charm.

If you are eating plant-based, finding options in wine country can sometimes be a treasure hunt. At Bully Hill, the menu almost always includes at least one great vegan-friendly option, usually their delicious Falafel Salad. However, to make it truly vegan, you do have to request a couple of crucial modifications:

  • Hold the Cheese: Be sure to ask them to leave the cheese off the salad when you order at the counter.
  • Swap the Dressing: The salad naturally comes with a Riesling Balsamic dressing. While it sounds perfect for a winery, it is unfortunately not vegan. You will want to ask for oil and vinegar instead. Note that oil and vinegar is the only other vegan dressing choice available, but it pairs beautifully with the fresh falafel!

The Million-Dollar View

No matter what you order, the real showstopper is the scenery. The restaurant boasts what I firmly believe is one of the absolute best views on all of Keuka Lake. Looking out over the rolling vineyards and the deep blue water below is worth the trip alone.

Whether you're stopping in for a quick lunch between wine tastings or settling in for a leisurely afternoon meal, knowing the ropes ahead of time ensures you can just sit back, take in the breathtaking view, and enjoy every bite.
